Success Principle #8 - Chunk it Down

"The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex, overwhelmisng tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one" - Mark Twain

Breaking a large goal down into smaller manageable tasks is exactly how any big goal is achieved. Take the goals that you set for yourself last week. It is now time to take those goals which you have already set down on paper and break them up into individual steps that you will need to take in order to accomplish the goal.

I would suggest that the individual steps that you write down also have a set date that they need to be accomplished by. This will ensure that you stay on track (time wise) for the big goal..

Jack Canfield mentions a number of ways to figure out the action steps you will need to take to accomplish any goal:
1. Consult with people who have already done what you want to do, and ask what steps they took
2.Purchase a book/manual that outlines the process
3. Start from the end and look backward

Get used to asking "Can you tell me how to go about.....?" or "How did you........?"

Jack also suggests using Mind Mapping to work out a detailed to-do list for achieving that goal.

Make a to-do list DAILY - Schedule these to-do items in your diary/calendar and do whatever it takes to stay on schedule. Whatever you dont manage to get around to today, move it over to tomorrow.

It is always essential to ensure that you do the most important things first! I guarantee you that there is something that you are procrastinating on - whether it be because its something you don't like to do, or because its going to take up too much time..... Stop procrastinating. It needs to get done eventually - do it NOW and get it over with.

Yours in Success
